STAR Community Rating System
STAR Communities is a nonprofit organization that works to evaluate, improve and certify sustainable communities. In an effort to provide a framework for communities to measure their progress towards sustainability goals, STAR Communities developed the first certification program in the nation.
In June 2015, Baltimore won national recognition for its efforts to build a more sustainable and resilient community. Earning the highest rating of 5-STAR, Baltimore joins Seattle and Northampton, Mass., in the highest ranking in the country.
ASAP Prize for Progress 2015
Aiming to improve professional practice in adapting to climate change, the American Society of Adaptation Professionals (ASAP), provides an annual award to a public, private, nonprofit, or academic organization whose practices will serve as guidance and encouragement for other communities. in 2015, Baltimore was awarded the ASAP prize for progress for it’s decision to incorporate climate mitigation, climate adaptation and hazard mitigation into all plans, projects and processes in Baltimore.
U.S Green Building Council Award
The United States Green Building Council (USGBC) administers an annual Leadership Award to individuals or organizations whose actions have been influential in the evolution of the green building industry and have helped improve awareness globally.
The Baltimore City Office of Sustainability and Commission were presented in February 2014 with the USGBC Leadership Award for demonstrating exceptional leadership creating a structure to implement sustainable actions in the city of Baltimore.
